Championing

At WWI 2008 a new exciting feature was announced. As long as you wear the tabard of a faction, you gain reputation with that faction in any level 80 dungeon in addition to whatever reputation the mobs of that dungeon award. Obviously for this, tabards would become purchasable at lower than exalted reputations. Patch 8885 added spells and tabards for 4 factions:

  • Argent Champion: You champion the cause of the Argent Crusade. All reputation gains while in level 80 dungeons will be applied to your standing with them.
  • Ebon Champion: You champion the cause of the Knights of the Ebon Blade. All reputation gains while in level 80 dungeons will be applied to your standing with them.
  • Champion of the Kirin Tor: You champion the cause of the Kirin Tor. All reputation gains while in level 80 dungeons will be applied to your standing with them.
  • Wyrmrest Champion: You champion the cause of the Wyrmrest Accord. All reputation gains while in level 80 dungeons will be applied to your standing with them.

Inscription

The first batch of lowlevel glyphs where implemented in this patch so we can go further into the mechanics of the new primary profession. How does it work?

  • Aside from glyphs, inscriptionists can scribe scrolls, create parchments for Enchanters to put their Enchantments onto, and create tarot cards that can be turned in for rewards at questgivers.
  • The primary gathering profession of Inscription is Herbalism.
  • The crafted glyphs stack up to 5, most of them are BoE so they can be put in the Auction House
  • The materials for glyphs can be made using the "Milling" Inscription skill which turns 5 herbs into pigments and then those into Inks. The following Inscription skill is required to mill certain herbs:
    • Inscription 1: Bloodthistle, Earthroot, Mageroyal, Peacebloom, Silverleaf
    • Inscription 25: Briarthorn, Bruiseweed, Strangelkelp, Swiftthistle
    • Inscription 75: Grave Moss, Kingsblood, Liferoot, Wild Steelbloom
    • Inscription 125: Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar’s Whisker, Wintersbite
    • Inscription 175: Arthas’ Tears, Blindweed, Firebloom, Ghost Mushroom, Gromsblood, Purple Lotus, Sungrass
    • Inscription 225: Dreamfoil, Golden Sansam, Icecap, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom.
    • Inscription 275: All Outland herbs
    • Inscription 325: All Northrend Herbs

  • Herbs are categorized into level ranges, all herbs of the same level range when milled create the same pomace, meaning the cheapest herb of a given set is the best choice for making a glyph.
  • Glyphs can be used to augment melee and spell abilities so the spellbook has a new tab to keep a track of them.
  • Since the glyphs are very cheap, allowing to swap them easily, there is a 1 Hour cooldown on every glyph (not shared).
  • Applying the glyph to your spellbook consumes the glyph, but it can be removed or immediately replaced with another.
  • Slots are unlocked automatically as the character levels up. Level 15 unlocks the first 2, then the third at level 30, fourth at level 45 and the final two slots are available at level 60. Of these 6 slots, 3 are major slots, 3 are minor slots.
  • Major glyphs modify combat spells to make them more efficient for a certain task
  • Minor glyphs modify reagent costs, allow cosmetic changes, etc... Basically nothing that can change the outcome of a fight.

New Items

Alchemy got new Diamond Transmute recipes:

So far only their effects are known, but there seems to be new Darkmoon Cards in the making:

  • Darkmoon Card: Greatness: Chance to increase your highest stat by 85 for 30 sec when dealing or taking damage in combat.

  • Darkmoon Card: Death: Each time you deal damage, you have a chance to do an additional 787 to 913 Shadow damage to targets with less than 35% health.

Gun'drak boss videos

Blizzplanet has one video for each Gun'drak boss. The level 76-78 dungeon opened in this patch, it's located in eastern Zul'drak and is the home of the Ice Trolls. Below is a video of the first boss: Slad'ran, High Prophet of Sseratus

You can watch the other 3 bosses as well: Drakkari Colossus, Moraabi, High Prophet of Mam'toth, and Gal'darah, Prophet of Akili

Hunter Pet videos

Rhino is a new exotic pet family of the Tenacity category with the special ability Stampede: your rhino slams nearby enemies within 10 yards, causing 47 to 63 damage and knocking them back 15 yards. 42 sec cooldown. Check the video! Source

We also have a video of the cutest pet ever: the Arctic Bear Cub which is trainable at the moment (located near his mother in Dragonblight):

Art of the WotLK Credits

In this patch, the 23 minutes long credits of Wrath of the Lich King was added, with 67 pieces of exceptionally nice art. Below are a few I picked, for the complete list head to the gallery!

all the images are available in the form of BLP files in the MPQ containers (/data/enGB/patch-enGB-2.mpq/Interface/GLUES/CREDITS/dalarandometga1-8.blp and dalarantga1-8.blp), however for wotlk they use a new kind of compression method or something, so i couldn't extract them properly, only through screenshots.

it's really sad that hunters get what is essentially an elemental shaman's 51pt talent in a pet...on a smaller cooldown...

Not to mention that the 51 point shaman talent restores 5% mana, does some reasonable damage and knocks back 20 yards...

I think you'll find that the cooldown on Stampede is actually 60 seconds, which can be brought down to 42 seconds with 3/3 Longevity (tier 9 BM tree: Reduces the cooldown of your Bestial Wrath, Intimidation and Pet Special Abilities by 30%.)

That explains why I thought 42 seconds was an odd number for a cooldown. (Apart from 42 being the answer to everything. Heheheh...)

Is it just me or does the Chamber of the Aspects loading screen make you think there is going to be more than one Dragon Aspect showing up there......*COUGH*Deathwing*COUGH* I mean come on, he's the only aspect to date to NOT to be confirmed as in Wrath, and the picture is a VOLCANO and Volcano's are Deathwing's Domain! just my speculation, but it makes you think doesn't it?
