Redridge Mountains is by far the most changed zone I've completed in the Cataclysm beta. It's a brilliant use of the zone's layout, phasing technology (both content and terrain) and quest flow. The zone is a shining example of the things Blizzard has learned over the years about designing level-up areas. This is an area you absolutely have to experience at least once, even if you don't plan to level a new character all the way to 85.

The Gnoll Threat

You'll start off Redridge in familiar territory, though a tower has now been erected at the Three Corners intersection, and Guard Parker has been promoted to Captain. Oh, and it looks like the lunch you took him in classic has led to new things, as Darcy is now known as Darcy Parker and resides in the Three Corners tower with him.

The first few quests deal with the gnolls in the surrounding area, and you discover that they have attack plans in place to assault Lakeshire itself. You then mount an attack on the gnolls holed up in Redridge Canyons and Rethban Cavern only to find out that the Blackrock orcs appear to be behind it all. This troubles Magistrate Solomon, though right when he thinks it's all over, Colonel Troteman mentions one man who can save Redridge: John J. Keeshan.

Saving Bravo Company

Keeshan is reluctant to help at first, because "it's not his war." Troteman enlists your help to convince him otherwise by sending you to rescue the other members of Bravo Company: Messner, Jorgensen, Krakauer and Danforth.

Rescuing Bravo Company won't tip the scales in Troteman's favor, so he also asks you to recover some of Keeshan's personal effects that were considered lost during his captivity: his bow, knife, bandanna and a jade locket. With these reminders Keeshan is sure to assist in the defense of Redridge.

To Win a War, You Gotta Become War

Keeshan and Bravo Company agree to help in the fight against the Blackrock orcs and decide to take it directly to them rather than waiting to defend. It's off to Camp Everstill for you and the crew, and once you arrive Keeshan and Bravo Company brief you on the situation.

The decision is to infiltrate Render's Valley and rescue prisoners of war who were taken from Lakeshire. After that you're to set up seaforium charges to detonate and destroy Render's Valley.

With Render's Valley out of the way it's time to make an excursion deeper into orc territory. First you take a detour to kill off General Fangore (who has also been promoted!) and enter the Tower of Ilgalar to confront the master of the gnolls. Then the fun begins when Troteman airdrops a siege tank and Keeshan hops on the back. The mission is to kill 200 Blackrock orcs on the way to Keeshan's Post, the final quest hub in Redridge.

From Keeshan's post you mount a full frontal assault on Stonewatch Keep with Bravo Company to kill Tharil'zun and Gath'Ilzog. In doing so you find out that the Blackrock orcs are not the ones truly behind this, it's the Black Dragonflight, led by Darkblaze.

You close out the zone by defeating a dragon, though there are many casualties during the fight which leaves you as the last remaining member of Bravo Company.

I have always loved that zone. The first time in that orc fortress is memories I will bring with me my entire wow carrier. I remember that the fortress was crowded with players, and it was almost impossible to not chain pull the entire zone trying to get in. Add that the two million (it felt like that many) elite orcs respawned like horny rabbits, and you have the most epic whipe fest you ever can imagine :)
It must have taken my group 20+ tries until we made it to the top of the tower :)

Indeed! I remember when these orcs used to be elites, truly a horrifying experience to quest there. :{

I'm keeping a Warrior, Lock and Rogue to level for Cataclysm, and see how awesome these places look.

I beg to differ Kody, have you leveled through Azshara yet? (I'll probably get to redridge when they open up worgen creation again)

I'd have to agree here.... making a zone with a quest total that I can count on my fingers and toes, into a full zone of newness, kinda wins for "Most Drastically Changed"...

Now there is a Beta Contest idea! "The WoWies!", different categories given by the WoR Staff, and we present a single nominee and why, for each category. WoR staff votes after, and the winning nominee + reason gets a Beta Invite, for each category!

Full zone of newness and a seriously bitching mode of transportation (its a goblin rogue, but I was on a quest that shape shifted me into a nelf.)
