Blizzard Explains Icecrown Weekly Raid Quests

While we've known about the Icecrown Weekly Raid Quests since patch 3.3's PTR phase, Slorkuz took some time today to give more details on the quests since they went live this week.

Now that Icecrown Citadel has been fully unlocked, allowing players the ability to progress in 10- and 25-player formats to defeat the Lich King, new raid weekly quests have been unlocked! These quests are specific to the Icecrown Citadel raid dungeon and do not correspond with the standard random raid weekly quest offered in Dalaran. Here's an overview of what you need to know.

One of five quests will be randomly available each week in both 10- and 25-player versions of the dungeon. This means each player has the opportunity to complete two Icecrown Citadel raid weekly quests each week if the dungeon is run in both versions, however, these quests have to be completed within the raid version (10- or 25-player) in which they are offered.

If a player obtains one of these quests but does not complete it that week, the quest will automatically be removed from the player's Quest Log the next time Lord Marrowgar is defeated under a new raid ID, or when zoning into an instance with a new raid ID where Lord Marrowgar has already been defeated. This only applies if the random raid weekly offered when the player enters a fresh Icecrown Citadel raid instance happens to be different from the one already in his or her Quest Log. Players can otherwise simultaneously have both the 10- and 25-player raid weekly quests in their Quest Logs and complete either of them at any time during the week in their respective raid versions. The quests given each week in 10- and 25-player versions of Icecrown Citadel will be randomly determined once Lord Morrowgar is killed, or once a player zones into an instance where Lord Morrowgar has already been killed.

The Quests:

  • Deprogramming - Look for a rogue named Infiltrator Minchar outside of Lady Deathwhisper's chamber. He'll speak of a brainwashed operative who needs saving from the lady's powerful means of influence. While engaging Deathwhisper, keep an eye out for a warrior named Darnavan among her minions. He must live if your raid group is to succeed in completing the quest.
  • Securing the Ramparts - After taking the platform up to the ramparts from Lady Deathwhisper's chamber, a lieutenant of your faction will seek your help in slaying the Rotting Frost Giant on the other end of the ramparts terrorizing his troops. Bring the monster down and return to the lieutenant for your reward.
  • Residue Rendezvous - Should you succeed in killing Deathbringer Saurfang, you will soon meet Alchemist Adrianna upon lurking further into the citadel. She will task your group with the unfortunate job of being infected by both a Green Residue from Rotface and an Orange Residue from Festergut. While infected with both residues, at least one player from the raid must speak with Alchemist Adrianna in order for everyone in the group to receive credit.
  • Blood Quickening - Outside the Crimson Hall awaits Alrin the Agile to inform your group that his friend, Infiltrator Minchar, has been captured by the San'layn for interrogation. Should you choose to help in rescuing Minchar, you will have 30 minutes from the moment you step foot in the Crimson Hall to kill Blood-Queen Lana'thel before she executes him. Fortunate enough for you, she will not kill Minchar if she is busy fighting your group.
  • Respite for a Tormented Soul - If your group can successfully free Valithria, she will morph into her humanoid form to offer you a quest in a more approachable manner. Providing each player who accepts the quest with a Pulsating Life Crystal, a channeling device, Valithria will speak of a way to save Sindragosa's spirit. Members of the raid who use these crystals on Sindragosa when she is below 20% health will slowly stack on her the Life Infusion debuff. Reaching 30 stacks (10-player) or 75 stacks (25-player) of Life Infusion before she dies will provide the frost wyrm with an aura of Soul Preservation. If your group manages to give Sindragosa this aura before killing her, a quest item can be obtained from her remains to complete Valithria's task.

The Reward:
Completing any of these quests will reward each member of the group with a Sack of Frosty Treasures and a healthy chunk of gold. The sack will contain Emblems of Frost and other potentially valuable items!

Which quest did your raid get, what did you think about it, and what did you get from the Sack of Frosty Treasures?

My 10 man group got Blood quickening, but the time limit was 20 minutes (we still completed it).

My 25 man got Securing the ramparts, killed him (he was harder than gun ship, lol). One of our raid members got a BOE epic, Marrowgar's Frigid Eye.

We had Blood Quickening in both our 10 and 25 man but it bugged in both and ran the timer when we were in the other wings. Apparently you can soft reset the instance to fix it but the GM didn't want to wait 30 minutes for 5 emblems.

Blood Quickening for my 10 man group and Deprogramming in 25. Our feral druid also got a Marrowgar's Frigid Eye from his loot bag.

Edit: Blood Quickening timer was 30 mins in our 10 man starting when we made the first trash pull.

My 25 man got Blood Quickening. This post says it's a 30 minute timer, but ours was 20 minutes. Barring either a fast, early wipe or great wipe recovery 20 minutes wouldn't leave a whole lot of room for a failed attempt. Thirty should be much more reasonable considering the other quests all have pretty large margins for error.

My warlock's ten man got Deprogramming which was pretty simple. We didn't really read the quest so I think most of us were assuming he would be a friendly npc similar to Millhouse Manastorm in the Harbinger Skyriss from the Arcatraz. When he spawned in the first wave he took a bit of damage before we identified him. From there we were able to CC him pretty easily while we finished the encounter.

My shaman's ten man got Residue Rendezvous, which was extremely simple. Pretty much just requires you to do Festergut and Rotface normally except that you need to be sure at least one person gets hit by Rotface's spray. Even if one person dies or doesn't get both debuffs, the whole raid gets credit when one person who has both debuffs speaks with the quest giver. Probably the least interesting of the weeklies.

In each of the three I just got the gold and badges. A handful of people got epic gems but I don't think I saw anyone get a BoE. Even if the drop rate for gems and BoEs is really low, 50 or so gold and 5 frost badges is very nice for what is basically just doing the content normally. The most out-of-the-way challenge would be killing the giant on the ramparts. I haven't killed him personally, but I hear it's at least a fairly interesting encounter.

The Residue Rendevous quest doesn't really have a huge margin for error, either, as it requires one-shotting whichever abom twin you fight second. It may be easy for high end guilds, but not for those of us in the midrange. And forget completely about a 20 minute (or even 30) Blood Wing full clear.

Adds an element of RNG to badge collection since basically 2 quests are automatic badges and three aren't for the majority of guilds out there, but at least badges don't mean much except extra gold via primordial saronite now that most people have 4pT10.

Feign Death/Invis/Vanish/Divine Intervention helps with that (ok, not sure if DI might not clear the debuff - does DI clear debuffs at all?)

Also, I read of a way to get credit for people on substitute duty for this particular quest:
(Probably advisable to have everyone pick up the quest beforehand) Gain both debuffs on at least 2 people. Have one of those zone out, and let the other talk to Adrianna to get credit for the "main" raid setup. The player outside should not get his debuffs cleared (until hotfixed) so you can then have this player and the reserve people zone in to get credit by that player talking to Adrianna.
And one day a Tauren appears
With powers of crow, cat, cheetah, and bear!

Hah, yeah, if the debuffs persist when you leave the zone, then... Do whichever fight first (doesn't matter). Then, before pulling the other boss, mage opens portal to Dalaran just before pull, and as soon as someone gets the slime spray or seed debuff and isn't taking any damage anymore, they take the portal. Bam, both debuffs on and safe from death. Then the raid wipes, they zone in, turn in the quest with all 25 people present, you open your bags of 5 badges and go start attempt #2 (your first REAL attempt).

Still doesn't make a 30-minute Blood Wing clear doable for most guilds. Nor Sindragosa kills yet (225 world kills on 25-man so far).
