Weekend Theorycrafting - Stamina: A Balanced Comparison

Posted Image

Fuzzwobble and World of Raids are proud to introduce a new feature: Weekend Theorycrafting

Once a week we will be taking a detailed look into the mechanics of different aspects of the game. Some articles will be released stand-alone, but many will be a series of articles over several weeks.

To help the community gain some insight into the different styles of tanking, the first article will be part of a series which will take steps to analyze the differences between the 4 respective classes, doing so in an attempt to distinguish their strengths and weaknesses.

There has been alot of controversy regarding which tanks may or may not be in a better situation to perform their tasks. Our purpose is to point out the various inconsistencies which tanks currently deal with and how a tank could potentially work around them. Each article will also give recommendations as to how relevant the statistic or subject matter should be to what class.

Without further ado, here's a link to the first article of the series- Stamina: A Balanced Comparison.

CB05 Guide: How To Feral DPS RELEASED!

Big fan of your site, just released a video that has a (very short, like 1-second short) plug of your website.

Number of bad words in this movie: 6
This is not for the elite of the elite.
This is for the average feral dps player who wants to improve and learn how to continue improving long after she's forgotten about this video.

English is my third language, doing voiceovers was a pain.

This movie is packed with info. WORKING AS INTENDED - or the movie would be 30min long.

Soundtrack (can't really hear it anyway):
tAKIDA x2
Jonathan Coulton
Bruce Springsteen w/ Mike Ness
Rancid x2

Seems I recommended a feral blog (Flyv) that just went non-WoW a while ago. Should've recommended Fluid Druid instead. Oh well.

Some people have asked for the script, it's posted here:

So I read that "Theorycrafting" post about 6 times, and the math still looks extra-fuzzy, and the conclusions very biased. It was clear without even looking it up that the author was an unhappy DK tank looking to get some sympathy for his class. Warriors and DK's come out to similar numbers using his repeated rounding and strange assumptions, but when it comes time to summarize, warriors can "very easily" reach the recommended stamina level, but DK's are in trouble... He throws his OWN oddly-derived numbers out when they don't suit his preconceived hypothesis. Just a trash article.

I agree DK's are probably the weakest tanks at the moment, but not based on this jumbled mess. Pulling numbers out of the air and calling them "baseline", then ignoring those numbers and saying "even though the math here comes out the same between them, DK's really are worse off than warriors, HURRR" just isn't a good way of gaining support.

I told him to focus on the topic for the next article since there was a lot of unrelated content in it.

That would definitely go a long way. :) The math having a little more basis in reality would help as well. (Basically values someone else could verify in a vacuum.) Solid numbers and data are good, assigning numbers to nebulous concepts on a whim ("We'll call this 200. We'll call that 20. We'll call this other thing 65.") just to make it look like data instead of opinion is less good.

I like the idea of theorycrafting articles, though, and hope the next one shows some improvement!

The numbers are NOT oddly derived. I've spent hours on end siphoning through items and gearsets to obtain the appropriate stamina representation for each item slot, as well as the base stamina level.

The purpose of the post was not to show a hp/stam ratio, but rather a comparison of healthpools when in current itemlevel gear.

It's also not appropriate to call bias, since my main tank for 4 years was a Warrior, not a DK. I actually have one of each of the tanking classes (though I mainly DPS on my DK nowadays and jump around in tree form all willy-nilly on mah drood =P)

The theory work has been tightened and the summary is gone. Many didn't grasp the reason why the summary even existed or why it contained data from outside theory work, which I suppose ended up making it pointless.

I don't make that statement in a condescending way either. I understand that i didn't put enough time into writing up a decent segue to lead into it so it did seem a bit polar from the theory work itself.
