Announcing Curse Client v4 Open Beta

This is something our development team (which we have open positions for) has been working on for a few months now. I'm very excited to help spread this announcement around, as I've happily used this as a WoW player since its early alpha versions.

Installation Instructions: First Uninstall Curse Client 3.0, then download and run the Curse Client v4 installer.
The Next Generation Curse Client

After the launch of Curse Client 3.0, we began taking notes on the most frequent user requests, complaints, and general feedback. The result of this feedback is Curse Client v4. In development since May, Curse Client v4 has been redesigned from the ground up to offer a more user-friendly Curse experience.

Curse Client v4 includes a variety of new features and enhanced security to ensure you're protected from malicious attacks. Here are just some of the key features we've added.

Please Note: The Mac version of Curse Client v4 is in an earlier phase of development. Not all features listed below are available.

Automatically Synchronize Addons on Multiple PCs
Posted Image
If you’ve ever had to setup your addons on multiple PCs, you know what a timesink it can be. Our solution to this problem is AddonSync.

Just install Curse Client v4 on any PC that you use, setup a Sync Group, and watch your addons automatically sync and stay updated on all your PCs.

Find and Install New Addons with v4 Faster Than Ever
Posted Image
With Curse Client v4, we’ve reinvented the way addons are found and installed.

Find addons instantly by Name, Category, Author and even the Community Rating. Sort by Popularity or Date Updated, then install with a single click.

Cruse Client v4 even includes an integrated download manager, for a real time view of all current downloads.

Automatically Backup Addon Settings for Easy UI Recovery
Posted Image
Have you ever had to reinstall Windows or experienced a hardware failure? The days of spending hours reconfiguring your addons are over.

Curse Client v4 adds fully automated, serverside addon settings backups and integrated recovery.

With AddonSync and Addon Settigs Backup, recovering your addons and all of your settings has never been easier.

Stay Safe from Viruses, Malware and Password Theft
Posted Image
Curse Client v4 is designed with built-in technology that protects you against malicious software and security threats.

Curse Client v4 application updates are now digitally signed by VeriSign with a Microsoft Authenticode certificate.

All communication between Curse Client v4 and Curse servers is signed and protected using industry standard 256-bit encryption.

When you use Curse Client v4, you can be confident that your addons are secure.

I think the feature I'd most like to see would be an easy UI copy from Live to Test. It's annoying to have to go through all my addon files to change the server name and character name from what they are on Live to what they are on the PTR so I don't have to redo my UI every time I go on the PTR.

This is not Curse Premium. This is a new Curse Client that is free to use.

The new curse client is pretty good, been using it for quite some time. However, it does not work that well with older versions of nod32 and Comodo firewall.

This sounds great, downloading soon. The Curse Client has been a handy little tool for me since I'm obsessed with UIs in general. Now if only they would add the "Update All" feature back into the free version. :P

You don't have to pay for the client but maybe you need to pay for the ability to read before you post :P

When are you finding that it's using a lot of resources? It was designed to use less than v3, so there may be some compatibility issues.

Please visit the client feedback section on Curse.com if you can and create a thread there.

First of all it takes half hour to load, because every time he needs to update to newest version, and I mean its every time I am loading it, then he checks something like windows firewall etc, and when its loaded it takes very long time to check database etc. Heavy resource usage is on addon scanning database checking and other stuff its doing at the start. It takes like 4 mins to load it if I am doing something else like watching movie. Maybe it takes less resource while being in a tray, but why should I keep him in a tray? And since i'm not premium, download speed is really really low.

I am aware of this as I installed the client before I posted my message. I am actually looking for a legitimate reason to pay $5 a month, or $30 a year for an automatic update option. Since I have to look at ads on the "free client", it would be nice to have the option to update all my addons at the same time, regardless of speed.

You can offer the other stuff, which many people have no interest in, as well as offer the automatic updating of addons for the $5 a month(or $30 a year). For the time investment needed to update addons with the "free client", it is faster for me to just download the addons manually and forgo the addon manager. The more people that feel the same way I do, the more the ad revenue will be driven down.

I am aware of this. My comment was aimed at the fact that the updated client does nothing to entice me to pay to automatically update my addons. I actually have paid for the ability to improve my reading comprehension, as well as the ability to understand physics, calculus(I, II, III), chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, biochem...well, it is a rather long list(I am majoring in VCR repair and underwater basket weaving). If you wish to measure each person's intelligence, then I am up for it. :D

I must say that I find it humorous that you tell me to "learn to read", but are incapable of doing it yourself. I never said anything about this updated client being available only for premium users, but you immediately assumed that that was what my comment was in reference to.

I have now run out of interesting things to say, for the moment.

So according to you, posting "I won't pay for this" in a news post about a new free curse client is obviously meant to mean that you don't agree with having to pay for the premium services.

Maybe if you took the time to write more than one sentence in your first post you would not have had people reacting the way they did and you would't have had to bore us with your supposed degrees and superior English skillz.
