Crusaders' Coliseum Boss Preview: Argent Confessor Paletress

Posted Image

It looks like my April Fools joke earlier this year may come true after all, at least in some fashion. It's also looking like one of the more memorable (no pun intended) moments from patch 3.2 may actually come from the 5-player instance.

One of the encounters you'll have to defeat is Argent Confessor Paletress. Well, maybe. She has an achievement related to her specifically, and it calls for "experiencing" 5 different memories from your past. This is based off of the Summon Memory spells and followed up with Memory Spawn Effect. Since Crusaders' Coliseum isn't yet active on the PTR, it can't be confirmed exactly how the memories play into the encounter. But, it could potentially mean you'll fight a boss from the past. Or it could just be some form of cutscene during the encounter after she uses an ability on you.

At any rate, here's a list of the memories from the data files. Keep in mind this isn't actually available for testing yet, so this list could change before the instance is opened and before 3.2 is released. There are 25 memories in total, with 26 Summon Memory spells, so one of them is probably used to trigger the random memory spell. These memories are, of course, all for the 5-player version of Crusaders' Coliseum. I've broken them up into what they were in the past (raid boss or dungeon boss) for ease of browsing the list.

Wrath of the Lich King

  • Raid Bosses
    • Algalon the Observer
    • General Vezax
    • Heigan the Unclean
    • Ignis the Furnace Master

  • Dungeon Bosses
    • Cyanigosa
    • Eck the Ferocious
    • Ingvar the Plunderer

The Burning Crusade

  • Raid Bosses
    • Archimonde
    • Entropius (M'uru)
    • Gruul the Dragonkiller
    • Illidan Stormrage
    • Lady Vashj
    • Prince Malchezaar

  • Dungeon Bosses
    • Priestess Delrissa
    • Warlord Kalithresh

Classic WoW

  • Raid Bosses
    • Chromaggus
    • Emperor Vek'nilash
    • Hakkar
    • Lucifron
    • Onyxia
    • Thunderaan

  • Dungeon Bosses / Quest Targets
    • Edwin VanCleef
    • Herod
    • Hogger
    • Mutanus the Devourer

It's an interesting list; maybe this is what Tigole meant by the surprise, and what players have wanted -- their chance to take on Hogger at 80 (without making some level 10 wait a few minutes for a respawn). What bosses are you sad to see not make the cut?

Hah, looks really cool. Think it's a bit too early to have Algalon in there tho, and missing all the lore-bla-bla would suck as well (and not having the <3 pretty area to fight him in).

i missed the major part of Classic wow. so it would have been cool if they would have put in Ragnaros. since what i understand is that @lvl60 he was the most fun, best designed and gave the most epic feeling when he was finally down

As it is called Summon/spawn MEMORY it might summon the bosses depending on if you have killed them before, tracked with achievements/quests.

I doubt it will be just simply random as it wouldn't make much sense if its with your memory unless it's based on someone else, then it can be random.

Would be cool if it was different for everyone depending on what they have achieved before.

Herod is the fight I'm really looking forward to. He was the first epic fight I ever got into. It would be better to see him than any WotLK boss that I killed two months ago.

I doubt it will work off achievements of the people. For purposes of "story/lore" and the game it is assumed your character has experinced everything before.

I'm a little upset that blizzard didn't add the obvious boss to the mix. Where is Kael'thas Sunstrider? He would have been perfect for a encounter like this

Me want Domo > Lucifron, Moroes instead of prince (lol) and switch Priestess with Murmur (even though we already have a "Stuck in place" boss).

Why no rag :(

Hell why no Nef? or Vael? Chromag was awesome but Vael was much more "fun."

Class calls in a 5 man would be AMAZING.

would like to see Vaelastrasz since iirc our guilds world rank peaked at the vael kill in the old days. and killing him "hard mode" was no easy task.

Ah yeah, Vael would be a fun 5-player boss. :)

Uhm... where did you get the names from? There's no info on the spells, at least not on the handful I checked, the NPCs that are summoned aren't in the DB yet.
And one day a Tauren appears

The assigned models (texture names etc.) are in the dbc files, so I went with that based on something that was pasted in IRC yesterday.

Vael wouldn't work in a 5 man, it just wouldn't be anywhere near as epic.

With 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 dps you couldn't BA the tank or the healer. Removing the need for tank swapping and no longer having increasing stress on healers just means it's a totally different fight.

They could easily adapt it for a 10 or 25 man raid though.

Sure you could, BA 1 and 2 hit ranged and 3 hits the tank. Sorta like a soft enrage.

I like the list really, I think they hit some of the more major encounters that would have been convertible to a 5 man without losing the epicness of the encounter.

You have to remember that Vael was a tank swapping fight implemented pre-Omen without the ability to taunt. Half the fight was the tank swap. You could do BA as you suggest but that really doesn't end up anything like the old Vael fight at all, of course people may not really care if it's like it I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy they're putting in some cool fights for 5 man groups (although they probably will be outdated within a week) I just prefer 10/25 mans and think they can do more with them.

I hope it's not just a straight copy of the fight. I'm hoping it's more CoT-ish, where you're thrust in mid-fight and have to recreate that one bit while NPCs of your former raid run about doing their thing.

Then again, it seems a bit odd that the Argent Confessor would make you relive past battles for no reason. Maybe the point is to make you "atone" for screwing up in the past, i.e. killing whelps in the Onyxia encounter that someone accidentally spawned.

It could also be that the entire fight is just the memory. But then how does it pick the memories? Does it scan the entire group and pick the ones that each person has? Or does each person in the party get their own memory?

There's so many directions Blizzard can take this. It's very exciting.
