Upcoming Epic Gems and Profession Changes

The 3.2 info frenzy continues! Could we see the PTR soon?

Quote from: Bornakk (Source)

When the next major content patch launches we will be introducing epic quality gems and updating the perks for each profession. Please keep in mind that any of this information may see further changes before the patch launches.

The design recipes for cutting epic gems will be made available for purchase with Dalaran Jewelcrafter’s Tokens and there are several ways to obtain raw epic gems:

  • Prospecting Titanium Ore
  • Alchemy transmutations
  • Purchased with Honor
  • Purchased with Emblems of Heroism
Coinciding with the implementation of epic gems and the gain that Blacksmiths will receive through their perk from these new gems, we have gone through all of the perks in every profession and increased their values to match up accordingly.

Alchemy
  • The Mixology benefits from Northrend elixirs and flasks have been increased
  • Added a new pattern for Flask of the North, usable by players with a high alchemy skill. The recipe is purchased from the honor potion vendor. The Flask of the North increases your spell power, attack power, or Strength for 1 hour, and is usable in arenas. It is not consumed when used.
  • Endless Healing Potion and Endless Mana Potion no longer usable in arenas. Amount of health and mana has been increased, and the cooldown reduced. They are still usable everywhere else.
Blacksmithing
  • No changes will be made to this profession; it will continue to have the 2 additional prismatic sockets (which can hold the new epic gems)
Enchanting
  • Values on Northrend ring enchants increased
Engineering
  • Increased benefits from Hyperspeed Accelerators, Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket, and Reticulated Armor Webbing glove modifications
Herbalism
  • Increased healing from Lifeblood (Rank 6)
  • Lifeblood now scales slightly with maximum health
  • Lifeblood no longer affected by global cooldown
Inscription
  • Master's Inscriptions increased
Jewelcrafting
  • Dragon's Eye gems stat bonuses increased
Leatherworking
  • Fur Lining values increased
Mining
  • Toughness (Rank 6) provides more Stamina
Skinning
  • Master of Anatomy (Rank 6) provides more critical strike rating
Tailoring
  • Embroideries improved

not consumed when used so not to expensive, and im assuming it wont be to powerful, just something so alchemists have a profession bonus similar to the other professions that works in arenas, since unless im forgetting something, they dont have any outside of consumables.

in BC alchemists used to have that trinket that increased the effect of poti...right, they dont have one

but..what the hell...gems wont drop in the next raid instance? we actually have to start farming heroics and honor for emblems, for gems?

sigh...

Well, you can buy the old badges with your new badges - and if you are clearing content every week, you should have more than enough to do just that.
And about the alchemy change: I'm a LW, so I have increased sp on my bracers - pretty much all profs brings something that makes them more potent that alchemy in arenas - this flask will most likely buff them just enough to make up for that.

The flasks are only there to give Alchemists the same benefit enchanters, leatherworkers, jewelcrafters, blacksmiths and scribes get from their professions.

Hmm, those argent squires...or whatever the "pet" is called. Wonder how good their healing will be? I can imagine 25 ppl using it the same second in raids, rofl. Probably give like 1000 healing HoT or something, nothing remarkable. :)

uhm...what?
the squire will still be a non-combat pet but will be on a horse and have a mailbox and a bank attached to it...

wonder when they're going to implement the traveling AH? :-??

Nice changes to the game.

I've been wondering when they were going to add WotLK's Crimson Spinels, Lionseyes, etc.

How do you figure? Blackmithing has a perk that doesn't need to be improved because as the general content is improved, so is your perk.

Yeah, Blacksmithing getting better just with the introduction of epic gems is the entire reason the other professions' benefits are being buffed.

Except now it's balanced around assuming you're using the extra slots for epic gems. It's not a buff unless you spend significantly more gold, which is likely not true of all the other professions' buffs.

This is only true depending on how hard it is to get the new gems. Since you can get them from Titanium Ore, it may not be as rare as the epic gems initially were in TBC.

But you're right, early tier raiding Blacksmiths will suffer assuming they don't have epic gems.

They will probably replace the rare gems that you can buy now for honor or emblems so it will not be that hard to get some.

I think you will always get an epic gem from prospecting titanium ore though as that ore is rare enough but thats just my guess

My guess would be 100% (or very high) chance of getting an Epic gem from titanium ore and I would estimate the new gems will be 15 Emblems. We'll see soon, but I really don't think the epic gems will be nearly as exclusive as they were when first introduced in BC.
