The Future of Tanks: Arms 2H and Ret Tanking? Maybe!

I'm not saying we will 100% for sure go down that road, but it is interesting idea to think about.

Worst idea ever... Just about as dumb as trying to make protection builds viable for PvP or making sure mages & warlocks can PvE AND PvP in all 3 talent trees just about as good.

Come on! This must be a joke...

... or at the end somewhere in the future we'll just end up with one universal class that is able to tank, dps and heal at the same time, regardless of spec...

... or we will end up with a bunch of noobs claiming that they can, because Blizzard said their class is able to.

The claim that "XY class is able to tank in all three trees" means that every noob, who rolls an XY will claim that he's a tank regardless of talents, gear, whatever... Currently, DKs are the worst pug tanks, period, so every time i want to do a pug with a DK tank, i have to inspect/armory him, check his talents, etc. Not because DKs suck, but because most players behind those chars think "hey, Blizz said i'll be able to tank on whatever spec, so i'm a tank lol". At least atm i trust warriors, paladins and druids a bit more... I don't wanna lose this trust, seeing every single warrior/paladin barking around claiming that "I'm fury/ret but i can tank lol!" and then wipe with them for hours...


On the other hand, differences between classes are starting to vanish day by day and now this... One fancy aspect of the game is that classes are different, roles are different, etc... Why would anyone want to take this away?! It's like to replace all colors of a palette with a few different tones of one single color...


And a final argument: wtf Blizzard is doing? They are just adding dual-spec for the game. Why do they even consider merging specs _now_? For some reason it seems that some retarded manager/sales-guy knocked the game designers out of their chairs and started to think about making decisions on his own... Or just some game designers got brainwashed... dunno...

Cant agree more, It's incredible dumd to even come up with the idea...
I love the 1v1 vs DK tanks with 30+k HP and that out dps me by 2:1 while still able to get out of so mutch dmg thanks to all of their defencive abilitys.

The any one should be able to do anything regardless of specc idea is what is going to ruin this game...

Making ret paladins able to tank or fury warriors tank is just plain stupid lol. I mean your a ret paladin cause you want to dps... or a prot cause you want to tank etc.

Might as well Just make one class - one race and say hey do what you want with it lol. Having the choice via talent trees is what makes classes different etc. I mean you know if you want to be a healer so u takea healer... dps u pick a melee or ranged depending on preference. Then if you want to tank u pick a tank class and spec for it.

I certainly wouldnt want to run heriocs or raids with a ret or fury guy "trying" to tank lol. Also letting them 2h Tank basically takes away the uniqueness of the DK.

Dude, it's "tank with any tree", not "tank regardless of spec". You still need the right talents to be able to tank. I don't see anything wrong with this idea, it's just hard to implement.

Also, having only one tanking tree means you can discard someone if he isn't specced in it, but it doesn't mean all of those who did specced right. If you want to be sure that your tank doesn't suck you still need to check his talent build.

ohhhhh, okay, sweet. there's the "shadow tree changes" that they promised back pre-3.0. apparently they'll begin thinking about them in 3.1.

In the tankpart he is saying "i can see" and "i can easily see" so often that he sounds like a mad prophet on drugs. And seriously what the hell is he talking about? are they not busy enough? making every warriortree tankable? why dont we just implent healing into the shadowpriesttree??? ...i mean...for what reason make 3 trees,when the outcome is the same?

You mean, like, Shadow Mend (old TBC Alpha 41-point talent)?

I think that could actually be viable, but a Shadow Priest would likely do their healing by dealing damage rather than casting heals. Something like a really beefy Vamp. Embrace on a single target, etc.

yeah i saw it back in the days and thought "what the heck are they thinking" . Ill try to explain what i mean on bananas and lollipops and priests*g*

Lets say u have a little child...and it is sucking on a sweet juicy banana (lets say a priest that is healspecced) ,but suddenly it spits it out and yells for a sweet lollipop (making dps) ,so u grab into your backpacks and pull out an old crappy green apple lollipop right under ur tissues! (the old shadowspecc before bc),u give it the child...it sucks and it just spits it out and yells at u...soooo u search again..u turn around your bags and there u have it,a brandnew,shiny,deepred strawberry deluxe lollipop (being shadow in bc and wotkl) and give it the child...so the child is happy it sucks on the lollipop and than spits it out,and yells at u it wants a lollipop that tastes exactly like a banana! WHAT DO U DO?

If a 2h warrior or a ret pala is made able to tank, what will become of the physical aswell as the magic against that target? Making the same dmg as a arm warrior and be able to hold as long as a prot pala or warrior just from talents is just insane. Bad idea.
