#10b. Blizzard crushes AoC and Warhammer much like the USSR crushed eastern bloc uprisings.

It signaled the true end of Burning Crusade's content, so yes, I'd say it is.

A good list, but anyone notice how nothing really happened in the first half of 2008? Probably due to the extended amount of time between 2.3 and 2.4. I propose something PVP-related could have been included for this timeframe, but off the top of my head nothing really sticks with me arena-wise except for the mass amounts of point selling going on.

I think another moment worth mentioning is the inclusion of Greg Street a.k.a Ghostcrawler in the WoW development team. I think he has done a lot in improving communication between players and the development team. Beacuse of this, the game is and will be all the better for it.

Great one! He hasn't been around that long either and we're noticing a difference.

Honestly... WoW did a lot to hurt my respect for Blizzard as is... and with this announcement... It is just completely gone.

3 separate games to make up SC2? How about you just take a little extra time and finish it as one? I'm not going to pay triple the amount to play what is in essence a single game.

Go to hell Blizzard, I miss when you made quality games for people to have fun... Not make excuses for people to spend more money.

You'll excuse my grumpiness... New Years doesn't really bring the best in me out.

They will be treated as expansions and if anything will be a good thing for the game since more than just a new campaign will come with each one such as new units etc. Also means they will be devoting development time to the game over several years rather than releasing it and forgetting about it after a year. And if you have been paying attention to any of the recent interviews you would know it would take a lot more than a 'little more time' for them to get the entire campaign out in a good quality.

Not to nitpick, but C'Thun is the final boss of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, not the Ruins

Also, I agree that the addition of Ghostcrawler to the dev team was a major (positive) milestone.

I agree with what others have said, GC joining the dev team and taking up an active role in communicating with the players is a very good thing. The announcement about D3 as well as the release of WOTLK is the most memorable blizzard-moments of 2008!

That is where you are wrong. The reason why Blizzard decided to split SC2 into a trilogy is so that they could greatly expand the singleplayer campaign. So now, rather then having 30 missions as the original, you are going to have up to 90 missions. In addition, the second and third part will come with additional multiplayer units, maps and features. So no, you will not be paying triple the amount for what is in essence a single game. You will be paying for a game and two expansions.

Also, since the second and third part are treated as expansions, they are more likely to be sold at retail expansion prices rather then regular game prices. So you will not be paying triple the amount either.

You're right there was a huge gap in content both PvE and PvP related. No one ever talks about it, but during that time was their implementation of voice chat. They spent a long time on a patch that was light on gameplay content but heavy on this feature which turned out to be a huge sink-hole.

It was followed by subsequent desperate efforts some of you might remember where they attempted to make it look "cool" and had drawings where a lucky user could win a mic. Thing is, if anyone won a mic, they just used it with ventrilo :P In the end they never really salvaged it. It's in the game, no one really uses it, and Blizzard definitely doesn't ever talk about it. It's never mentioned on the front of any WoW game boxes, and you have to look hard to find it on the back/sides to see any mention of it. It's their bastard child they're stuck with. At this point advertising the feature only reminds everyone they royally failed on that one patch (which is rare for them to do, but no one's perfect).

Bleh, you're right. Fixed.

And in regards to Greg Street (Ghostcrawler), you're right -- that definitely deserves honorable mention (or perhaps even deserves to be on the list). He's done an amazing thing not only for the game, but the perception of Blizzard developers as a whole. For quite a while now the community has felt disconnected from the game designers, and I think Ghostcrawler has done great at bridging that gap.
