You can get defense capped much faster than hoping for 11 heroic drops as a death knight:

Head
The Crusader's Resolution, 60 def, Quest
Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector, 20 def

Neck
Reinforced Titanium Neckguard, 26 def, Quest
Stalwart (Rare Orange) gem, 8 def

Shoulders
Pauldrons of Reconnaissance, 46 def, Quest
Inscription of the Pinnacle, 10/15 def

Cloak
Cloak of Peaceful Resolutions, 43 def, The Wyrmrest Accord (Honored)
Titanweave, 16 def

Chest
Breastplate of the Solemn Council, 76 def, Wyrmrest Accord (Rev)
Greater Defense, 22 def

Wrist
Bracers of Reverence, 34 def, Quest

Gloves
Gauntlets of Vigilance, 34 def, Quest

Waist
Tempered Saronite Belt, 57 def, Black Smithing (BOE)

Legs
Special Issue Legplates, 69 def, Argent Crusade (Honored)

Feet
Sabatons of Draconic Vigor, 58 def, The Wyrmrest Accord (Rev)

Ring
Solid Platinum Band, 25 def, Quest
Staunch Signet, 25 def, Quest

Trinket
Valor Medal of the First War, Emblem of Heroism (40)
Seal of the Pantheon, 65 def, Loken (HoL, N)

That's 694/699 defense depending on the shoulder enchant (and about 20k hp unbuffed and 47% avoidance) with only one item where you need to be lucky.

Right, this isn't the fastest way to defense cap yourself. It's a way to defense cap yourself with level 80 items. I suppose that can be added to the list too, though.

I'll go ahead and add a "fastest" list too, tomorrow.

Why ppl using "Defense Cap" ? There's no something like defense cap, only "crit cap", more defense = better. But good job ofc

I'm not sure, but it's a common term used so that's what I named the guide.

I like the DK post regarding Q items etc cause then you are def capped etc and can run heriocs easier to get the better stam items etc. Some of the heriocs in wotlk are easy some are really hard.

So would be good to have a list of items from normals / q's in prep for heriocs also

good idea. since most of those items are heroic drops and normally they wont take you to heroics if you're not crit immune already

Its the common term used sure, but it also serves to spread the misinformation regarding defence rating.
The reason people call it that is beacuse previously other mittigation stats gave u way more benefit than defence after reaching the crit cap. Ie your defence is capped - u dont want any more.

Now this is no longer the case it would make more sence to refer to it as the 'crit' cap so people arent confused by what they are actualy doing.

Well if you want to be all anal about it, we could call it "The defence cap inwhich you become uncrittable in standard raid boss settings"

Because crit cap is used as a dps term, especially by rogues min maxing.

I try my best just to call it the "defense soft cap." Most people understand what that refers to and if they don't, it usually prompts them to ask.

I wasnt being anal i'm merly trying to highlight something a lot of people are getting wrong at the moment and a valid reason for it. I dont see any topic heading as any kind of point of contention before ive read what the topic contains, im a little more open minded than that. There are a lot of bad choices being made at the moment regarding gear levels and what is required, I believe people referring to the "defence cap" is one of them.

If i was being anal I would say your argument makes no sence, first you correct me with some poor humor then you start your second sentance with beacuse and state a completely unrelated point to corroberate your argument. Try learning how to argue in a logical fashion, its quite gratifying

I was just pointing out, with poor humor apperently, that crit cap is as vague as def cap and changing it would be pointless.

Your respons more than proves my comment on you being anal, although i admit it was in a hurry when i initially wrote, so i threw out all, if any, interwebs argueing ethics i knew.
