Upgrading your wotlk beta client to work on live servers

Tested and working on EU live servers

This is basically for the people who can't get their hands on the DvDs but can get the CD-Key, till you manage to get a copy downloaded i found out how to get your beta client to work on live servers.

I had the beta client, downloaded and fully updated.

I changed 2 things so i am able to login with it to live servers :

1-Go to //Wotlk Beta Folder/Data/enGB/realmlist.wtf

open it, remove all what's written there and paste that

set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set portal eu

This change is to make your client connect to the European servers.

You should be able to see in your //WoW/Data/enUS/realmlist.wtf the real values for logging in on US servers, you copy that to your beta client and it should work

2- Copy //WoW/WoW.exe to //Wotlk Beta Folder/ - replace the current file.

Your wow tbc version has got to be 3.0.3

This change is to bypass the (Unable to validate game version) error.

And you can login and play, which means when you get your wotlk copy all you have to do is scratch the key and type it on the website and just login. Ofcourse i can't test northrend with it but it should work fine, i was able to play normally on the beta, later on you can install the game when you have the time for it since there will be lots of patches coming out , which will change a lot of things.

NOTE :: Don't run the game from launcher, run it from wow.exe . Launcher had the habbit of returning realmlist.wtf back to it's default value.

Does this bypass the whole WotLK installation process or will you still have to install from the DVD once you get it?

You won't have to install, but i would highly recommend installing it when you are able to.

Does doing that cause the Beta to update to yesterdays build? Since it if doesn't you will start running into problems.

Either way you will need to install the game but I guess if you run into no problems then it will work till the first large patch.

I already copied the executer of tbc 3.0.3 so the login server thinks i am updated to 3.0.3.9183 (while i am at 9155), so i log in fine, doesn't update or anything.

Because it is. The game is not important enough that you can't wait to go buy it at the store.

and it might be against the eula or the tos....

eula and tos im not too sure about but really not too sure as to why they would care you are still buying the product.

It's not advisable mainly because you will be detected as a BETA client.. not the retails that's going to be out in stores. You will have patching problems just because it's a beta as they have stopped developing the beta.

That's true, doesn't mean you can't use it the first day till a torrent for the game is out, if you can't get your hands on the DvD like me.

For those that do it, great, but you'll run into trouble at a content patch, more than likely.

Those that don't, your opinion really isn't needed.
