So confusing

Hi im a lock, and I've been 80 and stuff for a while but i cant do like ANY dps even though I'm in fairly good gear. I think the problem is my spec, I really have no clue what works. I'm demo right now but im getting out-dpsed by like death knights in greens. Is there a single spec that does the most damage? I have heard destructo, afflicto, and demo. I've tried all sorts of variations of all three but none seem to do any damage. Also if you could include the rotation u use with spec on bosses and the rotation u use on trash. Will greatly appreciate any help, thanks.

Well, destro and afflic are both good dps, but in my personal opinion afflic is the best because it utilizes soul drain at the end of fights. I currently do 8.2k on patchwerk with a infernal and 7.8-7.2k without on average as affliction and a beastly 8.6k with my doomguard RAWR!,

Im 55/0/16 my rotation varies on whatever I feel like clicking,

but typically i start out a fight with life tap for my 4set, haunt>UA>immolate>CoA>Corruption>Siphon Life and then get off as many shadowbolts as I can before reapplying my dots when needed.

The key to affliction is keeping all your dots up at all times and being efficient at it.

Affliction is one of the more difficult dps rotations at the moment but keep at it and make sure you're always souldraining at 25% hp on boss fights.

for those wondering why I have 702 haste lol, its because its better then crit and I can get 2 or 3 extra shadow bolts in before reapplying if instead I had stacked crit or more spell dmg.

This turned out to be a bit more lengthy then I thought, if you have any questions ask or check the elitest jerks forums, what they say isn't gold but it'll give you some gist of what you want to do.

depending on your gear... but felguard spec might work for you. It's easy and does ok damage if you aren't top geared... like in earlier raiding.

0/41/30 or some variation. used that before I went affliction when I got some gear for it.

Inscinerate, Immolate CoA/CoE and Corruption should be used. Try it :) the spec you have now is a bit weird.. and if you have trouble seeing when your dots run out, get Dotimer addon from curse.com, helps a lot.

Currently destro is about 1k dps behind affliction at top gear levels. Drain soul helps, but no, it is not what makes affliction better.

No you don't. At least pick realistic numbers when you lie. Your gear is good, I'll give you that, but even if you knew what you were talking about, and had the best enchants (and almost any prof other than herbalism) you would see maybe 7200 dps with a doomguard and 6400 without, give or take.

You don't even have 3 minute Patchwerk. If you somehow managed to put out 8.6k dps, you'd have that achievement no problem. Even if you were raiding with complete scrubs, you could at least go into the 10 man and get that version. My guild's patch kill this week was 2'24 and our top dps were just over 6k.

As for the spec, it's pretty solid but in your current gear you have just over 11% hit. Adding in 3% in a raid setting you're just above 14%. Meanwhile, you have 3 points in Eradication and none in Cataclysm. Eradication has diminishing returns as you put points into it because of the cooldown on the effect. The first point is by far the most effective and after that it drops off. I can see having two points in it, but not three given everything else.

No, in every possible situation there is exactly one thing you should do to maximize your dps. The number of times a difficult decision comes up is pretty low and it's even lower if you understand the spells and mechanics you're using. And I hope you're not literally clicking the spells...

Shrug. I guess tapping for the 4pc is okay to do at the very start of the encounter, but if it causes you to start your dps any later that you normally would, it's probably going to be a net loss. With threat these days you can typically start right away so you'd have to tap as you're running in and are still out of range of the boss. Hopefully you're not tapping during the encounter just to keep the buff up. It's not worth it.

It's also nice to get a shadowbolt in before applying DoTs. Between the haunt and sb your shadow embrace will be stacked up.

Yeah haste is good, but point for point spell damage is better. More shadow bolts does not a good stat make. Besides, with that amount of haste you'd get 7 shadowbolts in the time it takes you to cast 6 normally (approximately, it's actually slightly less). There's no way you get "2 or 3 extra shadow bolts" between dot applications unless you're letting your dots fall off and stay off for an extended length of time. And if you were doing that, you'd be lucky to hit 3k dps.

Which brings me back to the whole point of my rant... don't lie about how much dps you do.

8.6k is very doable with doomguard, there are warlocks who do 9k

7.8k-7.2k with a ele sham and moonkin is easy with my gear and haste with an infernal 6.2k is terrible.

My hit is fine for destro btw, and no I don't click.

There are lots of warlocks that stack haste and have the same setup as me and do more dps, those numbers aren't unrealistic at all.

With procs you can get 2-3 shadowbolts in before reapplying considering my cast drops as low as 1.15 with and 1.35 without with bloodlust, stacking spell dmg is the best stat, but haste is almost as good.

Thats the class ranking for warlocks on all current bosses from WMO and includes parses from all over the world including US best Premonition who is currently #1 fastest kill (AKA HIGHEST RAID DPS) on patchwerk.

If you pushed 8k dps You'd show up here. The only people who do show over 8k dps are on wws with hacked log files. There is now possible way a warrior is pulling 10k dps w/o major buggs or a warlocks pet would be named Garfield or AristoCat with swingtimes under a second. This isn't possile.

That being said 7600 is reasonable. 6800-7200 is a good number to aim for for decent gear (aka 50/50 BiS) and 5800-6800 should be doable with a doomgaurd on patch.

Also Lucifer I bet your the kind of guy who painstakenly edits a wws log to read as 9k dps..which is pretty sad.
