i was just wondering with my current gear what spec should i be? i tried 18/53/0 last night with about 345 hit and i didnt do nearly as well as the other mage... and he had almost identical gear.

ive heard arcane is still the best spec.

I would say if you dont got another fire/frost/frostfireball mage then dont respec. The 10% crit debuff is alot more raid dps then any respec can offer.

From what I have gathered and seen then dps from higest to lowest is
arcane>fire>forstfireball>frost but that could change with gear ofc.

Arcane Mages have been proven to be the highest DPS in raids IF and ONLY IF they have the mana to keep up their rotations. In order to do that currently you need to pretty much have 2 - 3 druids that are taking turns throwing an innervate up on you. Otherwise once you are hit capped FFB is the way to go.

thats the worst advice ive ever seen. 2-3 druids innervating? are you serious?

mana is no problem when you have a 2min evocate and mana gems. not to mention regen.

as far as ffb goes you dont even need to be near the hit cap. 18/53/0 is the spec which needs the most hit.

Im sorry but this is not true, if you want the arcane mage to just spam arcane blast it might be but they could still do great dps with a 3-5 arcane blast mbam rotation. The thing about arcane is that you realy need to know to change rotation since unlike most other specs you cant have a rotation or prio system that works for ever fight you need to change it for every fight to do max dps.

But still 10% crit> any spec. If you dont got that from another mage then stick to fire/frostfireball and keep telling the rest of the guild that the reason that you are not nr. 1 is because you are buffing everybody else.

Guess you never played an (arcane) mage...

If you know how to play arcane spec mana is no problem.

I am a fire mage I mean all fire ( 71 points worth) yet everytime Im in a grp they complain that im not getting 1k or better. (btw Im still working on my gear) But yesterday I was doing gun'drak and it was fantastic nobody bitched to me that I was low on dps, and we finished the instance heroic mode. so I was thinking its not me. its the other people im grouping with. I must be getting bad people who cannot support my spells. Im going to add recount to my add-ons tonight and set up macros. But I have read and read and read , different things some say its your gear some say its your rotation maybe people dont understand mages, other classes think we can do this all be ourselves idk. but imo I think its a combo of gear and excellent balanced group . to succeed.

if they see that you do 1k dps in a raid or hc, they can give u multiple kicks in the nuts, srsly. without any support u should do atleast 2-3k dps -.-

With your gear you should be able to pull
5k+ on patchwerk heroic

Atm all our mages is 18/53/0

with this spec u will never get low dps cuz of shitty critstrikes
and you can make 6.5k on patchwerk normally
