Fire Mage: *feedback Prep for Wotlk

Hi all. I am new to the forum. I would like your feedback on my current gear and spec. I am currently fire. I am trying to figure out what gear and gems to invest in to prepare for WotLK. I also would like to ask what spec will be useful in the new expansion.

Are you purely pve? Appears from the gear you have that you pvp some, even though you're not on arena teams atm. If you don't pvp, that spell pen and resil on your gear's not helping much in pve ;)


Your legging gems are strange. You are over the hit cap so ditch the +hit gem there, and +12 dmg gems will benefit you more than haste/dmg based on your current +977 dmg. Don't gem haste til your 1000-1100 dmg.

Not sure on how +crit has changed in value since the addition of hot streak, but pre 3.0.2 you should in no way gem for crit, dmg will always win out. Again that may change with some of the new talents.

PUG a ZA for Hood of Hexxing
Reckless Pyre in your neck
Shoulders from the first chest in ZA
Cloak's horrible, get one of the 60 badge cloaks or one of the two in ZA
Chest is fine
If you're rich go for bracers of nimble thought, though likely a waste of money since xpac out soon. Keep the ones you have and gem em with a reck pyre
Reck pyre in your boots if you're still at hit cap after some of these upgrades
Exalted kara ring or ZA 3rd chest ring
Icon of Silver Crescent is slight upgrade over quag's if you have extra badges
Badge wand is one of the best and pretty cheap.

Thank you so much. Yes, I've been wondering about my gems....I do have the Violet Signet exalted ring from Kara btw. This is my first toon so can you explain to me why it's better than the PVP one? I'd love to hear your thoughts. : )

I have other trinkets such as the Crusade card, and Xiri's gift. The Pipe from Brewfest has the same exact stats as the icon....so are you suggesting that I get icon as well? Is that better than equipping the Crusade card and Pipe?

What about shoulder upgrade?

The reason I use some pvp is for increased stam....is that not a good idea?

One tip is that if you come across healing items that none in your raid needs like the cloak in ZA (there's a chance healers already have it) it will be great for damage after the 3.0 patch. Since it has healing and haste and after patch healing and dmg go as one stat called spellpower, meaning it will have great damage potential.

You can check all those items on http://wotlk.wowhead.com and compare it to your current gear.
