I haven't had time to test this out, so I was wondering if there is any theorycraft on this subject.
Assuming T6+ gear, maxed +hit, standard PvE raid destro spec. What are your opinions about a +haste build vs. +crit build?
If you visit sites like maxdps.com the formula seems to suggest +haste > +crit. But after using a +haste build for PvE raiding for a while I am beginning to feel the pain of mana issue. I was wondering if switching to a +crit build will be better.

haste...haste...haste...
ive tried both as well, just cope with the mana issues, you still benefit more (hey, haste deduces gcd as well :) )

Already chain-chugging mana pots. I typically consumes about 40 per raid night.

well, when your over 1380 spelldamage(fully raid buffed), haste is the best stat there is, mana you get from life tap(which gets faster) and mana pots^^

All you need to know is haste.

you got to have as well 30% crit including devastation and backlash then go for haste and damage and pew pew

well haste is better even when crit is at about 10% :(
but for the sake of raid boosting, aka isb uptime ~25% is advised, just enough to maintain the debuff for yourself

Amen.

You haven't learned lifetap? Or are you having low % wipes on brutallus all night long where you really have to push the dps to the max, because that's the only situation where I can imagine you needing mana pots, not counting exceptions ofcourse...
And ontopic: haste > crit, and people claiming you NEED 30% crit have no idea what they are talking about.

Nah Brutallus we can do 30000+ raid dps easy.
It is on M'uru encounter that all locks in our guild utilize mana pot to save one global cooldown. The fight is even more of a DPS check than Brutallus.

i understand haste is better than crit but would it be more worthwhile to gem 10 haste or 5 haste 6 dmg

5 haste 6 dmg would be better then 10 haste i believe, at my lvl 12 damage > all still, 10 haste is just a tiny bit below it

Uh...not really. Unless you're gonna go fire or have 3 locks with 30% crit rates to buff your damage.
Overall, it's pretty debatable. The math puts haste ahead, but doesnt account at all for movement, and not to well for ISB uptime. From my own experience, I tend to go after haste after 28-30% crit with talents. I value spell damage more than either, tho. Atm, I'm at 1310 spell dmg, 28.8% crit, 195 hit, and 81 haste, with fel armor.

I have a question too.
I got this demo friend doing sunwell and shit. He is actually doing very good in dps, toping the meter like any destro lock. But when I see is armory I'm amazed. He is running full spelldamage and no haste. He has like 1400 shadowdamage unbuff and 22% crit, and like 50 haste. I told him about haste but he say that he doesn't want to gem for haste before he got his hand on skull of guldan. Is he right?

Amen.
Haste is your friend with already such stats.

most peop[le start stacking haste at sunwell, when you need only like 1 or 2 T gear. 1400 spell damage minimum.

well as any lock haste is important, im not sure if it scales with his pet at all...
if it does not then haste from gear is nice, but damage would be the way to go in sockets

People always neglect to notice that Haste becomes progressively less valuable. Since it is spell casting speed +%, you need more and more haste for each % reduction as you progress.
If you have skull of guldan too, i find crit to become more valuable than haste. I've got the maths somewhere but i figured as soon as you get over 12-15% haste, crit becomes more valuable point for point.

crit will always be the lowest stat, the value varies by gear, but crit always seems to be the lowest
